CLEAN WATER

Home Mayor's Initiatives Environment Clean Water

Calgary's drinking water is clean, safe, and reliable. And our treatment of wastewater has won awards from sources as varied as the Consulting Engineers of Alberta, Chatelaine magazine, and the prestigious Sierra Legal Defense Fund.

Both the Glenmore and Bearspaw water treatment plants are currently being upgraded to keep pace with residential growth, stay in compliance with increasingly stringent federal and provincial regulations, and reduce the impact of those facilities on the environment.

The City has introduced many innovative water conservation programs, including mandating that all 300,000-plus Calgary homes and businesses be equipped with water meters by 2014, a project that is already more than 80 per cent complete.
