Under Mayor Bronconnier's leadership, and with the enthusiastic support of most Calgarians, this city - the capital of Canada's fossil fuel industry - is becoming known for setting ambitious targets to protect the air, land and water resources we've been blessed with.

And for designing and implementing innovative programs to ensure we meet, or exceed, those targets.

We're not yet where we want to be, and should be, but we're definitely making progress.

In fact, in 2006, Calgary was chosen from among 23 nominated cities to receive the prestigious World Leadership Award in the environmental category. We were honoured particularly for water stewardship, wetlands protection, and active encouragement of sustainable development.
