RECYCLING

Home Mayor's Initiatives Environment Recycling

Calgary is on track to have door-to-door residential collection of recyclables up and running in 2009, a service that will provide weekly pick-up for 300,000 single family homes up to and including fourplexes.

Curbside recycling will be a major step toward achieving The City's 80-20 by 2020 goal: recycle 80 per cent of our waste, and send just 20 per cent to landfills, by the year 2020. At the moment, these numbers are reversed: we recycle just 20 per cent, and landfill the other 80 per cent.

At the urging of Mayor Bronconnier, The City also introduced electronics recycling, and now has 15 year-round depots accepting ‘retired' computers, cell phones, stereos and television sets.
