MSI AGREEMENT

Home Mayor's Initiatives A Sustainable City MSI Agreement

On September 14, 2007, Mayor Bronconnier signed the Municipal Sustainability Initiative agreement with the Province, the most significant new funding arrangement in the history of Alberta.

The MSI agreement will bring some $3.3 billion in ‘no strings’ funding to Calgary over the next 10 years – the equivalent of the provincial property tax paid by Calgarians, now being returned to Calgarians to help pay for infrastructure projects that are long overdue.

Within days of taking office in October, 2007, the new City Council voted to use the MSI funds to kick-start the most ambitious infrastructure building program in Calgary’s history, including a major expansion of the LRT system, and construction of new and upgraded regional recreation and sports facilities.
