CLEAN TO THE CORE

Home Mayor's Initiatives Safer Communities Clean to the Core

Mayor Bronconnier launched Clean to the Core in the summer of 2006, a multi-partner program that aims to make Calgary’s downtown a place of pride - the clean, safe and appealing heart of the city.

The program is loosely modeled on the ‘broken windows’ policy Mayor Rudy Giuliani introduced so successfully in New York City, i.e. stop the little problems before they become big problems.

Mayor Bronconnier put together a dedicated downtown team of all City services – parks, roads, transit, Bylaw personnel and the protective services – and made them responsible for removing grafitti, cleaning the streets and sidewalks, planting flower beds and baskets, and generally reassuring the public that downtown Calgary is, indeed, a place to explore, experience and enjoy.
