INVESTMENTS IN SAFETY

Home Mayor's Initiatives Safer Communities Investments in Safety

A whopping $330 million in new funding will be invested in security services infrastructure over the next 10 years, including $50 million to be spent immediately for police, fire and EMA stations.

The funds are part of an estimated $3.3 billion being returned to Calgary by the Province through the historic new Municipal Sustainability Initiative agreement negotiated and signed by Mayor Bronconnier in September, 2007.

Work will begin immediately on an emergency operations centre, police and fire stations downtown, a north service centre for police, and tri-services centres in both Royal Oak and Saddle Ridge.

Security has also been beefed up considerably on the CTrains, and more video surveillance cameras are being installed near downtown trouble spots.
